It was pouring rain again today. We spent the day at church, and then bumming around the cabin. Everybody was shocked at church when Laina got up and said she'd show Nate where the class was. She ran over and got him and they took off for primary before anybody else was ready to go.
We spent the afternoon going through all of our old possessions and talking with Meghan. It is so sad not having her here!
Laina was so excited to find one of my old dresses. She's been trying on all of our old stuff.

Over the past weekend, there was a sawfest at the wood carving place. We stopped by to check out the new carvings and play on some of the old ones. The kids were quite surprised when all the adults got on the carousel!!
Since Cole has been catching and netting fish so much, he has now moved on to learning how to clean them! I can't believe my little boy is allowed to use such a sharp knife!

Rain, rain, going away. Tons of rain and not much fish doesn't make for an overly exciting day!
We tried to go on a boat ride but by the time we got everybody organized, it was too late and the rain started up more. Instead Cole went with Uncle Mitch, Grandpa, Uncle Matt, Kaiya and Drew to the shooting range. Grandpa said that he has created a monster since Cole liked it so much. This has been a great trip for Cole to get to do boy stuff!

The excitement for the day was rafting the river. We had to go in two separate trips since there are so many of us. The first batch included Cole, Drew and Mitch in the canoe and then Matt, me, Laina, Lance, and Nate in the raft. We got into the boats and down the river without any problems.
It wasn't until Matt and I tried to "dock" the raft without having a clue what we were doing together that the real excitement started. We passed the first possible site, passed the second possible site, attempted to find a rope and throw it to the third site but with no luck.
We had Drew grab our paddle as we went past the fourth site but we kept on going. We finally got close enough to the bank and we were able to get ahold of a tree to stop us.
We had to pull ourselves back up the river holding on to weeds and little trees. Everybody was watching and wondering what we were going to do if we couldn't stop the raft but they were laughing hysterically at us the whole time.
Matt, Jamie, and Mitch went on a float plane sight seeing trip followed by the second rafting trips.
The canoe had Abby, Alysa, and Mitch. The raft had Jamie, Brittany, Kaiya, and Jake.
We thought for sure that the raft would miss the stop but they stopped without the slightest problem. Matt had a rope all ready to throw to them but didn't get the chance to use it. It was so anti-climatic!

We had an exciting time today. After much discussion last night about how miserable halibut fishing trips are, 6 of us decided to go ahead and go on a halibut trip. Mitch, Jamie, Kaiya, Drew, my dad, and I all joined Vaughn Fowler, his wife and two kids for a much anticipated trip out of Homer. It was the first time for Kaiya, Drew, Jamie, and myself. We didn't really know what to expect other than leaning over the side of the boat throwing up. We all took some motion sickness medicine before we left and we were blessed to have calm water. Nobody got sick against the wishes of Matt and Brittany.
I caught the first fish. It was small but I kept it anyway since it was my first fish. I couldn't believe how many fish there were. They weren't really big ones but there were a lot and we all got our limit. I was glad that my second fish was much bigger than the first. It was fun to bring it up from the bottom of the ocean even though it took forever!
Kaiya got the largest fish out of us all and she seemed to be really enjoying herself. She also caught a starfish and Drew caught a skate (sort of like a sting ray).
In addition to being a halibut trip, we counted it as a sightseeing trip as well. On the way to Homer, we saw a moose. On the trip we saw humpback whales, seals, otters, a puffin, and lots of jelly fish. We also got to see one of the volcanoes once the rain let up a little.
I felt pretty bad leaving the kids behind for the whole day but it was definitely worth it to experience a great halibut fishing trip.

We didn't do much today other than recover from yesterday and get Matt and Jamie ready to leave tomorrow. The kids of course ran around and played all day but the adults were pretty hammered.

Matt and Jamie left for the airport early this morning. I can't believe how quickly the time went by. It seems like they just got here! Now we have to get ready for Brittany and Mitch to leave tomorrow. Other than that, it was another dreary, rainy, day!
