This week hasn't been overly productive. The kids have continued to play with their cousins. They have been helping to "babysit" some bunnies. I think they just like to go over because there is a trampoline to play on!
Cole has really been enjoying scouts and Morgan loves Young Women's. I think they are happy to be back in the states! I've been working to help Brittany and Meghan organize some stuff and also trying to keep up with making bread.....not such an easy task here.
Chris was able to get a new car. That is one major thing to check off the to do list! He ended up with a silver (or is it gray??) VW Jetta. I am looking forward to its great gas mileage with all the commuting we've been doing!
We have decided to buy a house rather than rent. Now we just need to get qualified and find one that we like. The real estate agent sent us an 86 page list of houses to look through. We narrowed it down to 28 before Cole, Alysa, Morgan, and I drove to Utah for the weekend. We drove through the areas and narrowed the list down to 16.
The kids and I met with Brad, the real estate agent, on Friday to look through a bunch of houses. We found one that we all LOVED! We looked at another afterwards but nothing was going to be as fun as the other one! After finishing up looking at houses, the kids and I headed back to Idaho. Chris finished up work and met Brad to look at the house. Unfortunately, he didn't agree with our assessment of the house. Apparently it wasn't the highest quality house and he feared that it would fall apart. I guess that's what happens when you build houses for 9 years.....you notice the little things! So, no go on the house. The house that we looked at last was really close to the house that Chris didn't like so Brad drove him by it just to see the outside. Chris really liked the neighborhood and wants to look at it on the inside.
Chris finished looking at houses and joined us up in Idaho. The kids were so happy to have him there....and I was pretty happy also! I don't know how families do the long distance stuff. This is killing us.
At church on Sunday, a couple spoke that was leaving to serve in the El Salvador Temple presidency. They seemed a little nervous about their safety so Chris and I talked to them for a little bit afterwards to share our thoughts on it. It seems like it was a lifetime ago that we were there even though it was only a couple weeks!
Sunday afternoon, Chris headed back to Utah and the kids and I prepared for another week. I can not wait to get settled in our place. I am extremely grateful to my sisters (and especially their husbands!) for putting up with us for so long. I don't think we could have survived this time if it wasn't for them!!

We are all getting in on the back to school sales. Today Meghan and I took 4 kids and we each got 2 boxes of crayons and two rulers for $.01 each. Meghan is working very hard to get me back into my old ways of deal shopping!
Another difference that I have noticed here is that milk has a long time before its expiration! In Guatemala it was about 4 days if you were lucky. Here it is about two weeks!!
All the kids have been begging to sleep at the Moffitts with their cousins. Last night I ended up having to pick up Laina at 11:00 because she forgot her pink blankey and couldn't sleep.
Chris flew back in to SLC tonight! His only communication was an email that said, "I'm exhausted. I'll talk to you tomorrow." Poor guy. It was a whirlwind week!

The three families went on a little trip to Steadman Ranch. It is a farm where they have build some giant slip and slide type things. It also had a zip line, trampoline, swing sets, sandbox, and covered picnic benches.
I don't think we were even parked before the kids all took off. Except for one very hesitant Alysa. She took quite a while to get up her nerve to go but once she did, there was no stopping her. Laina enjoyed playing on the trampoline quite a bit also. There were a few crashes with scrapes and bumps but nothing too major.
Meghan discovered some little tiny blow up donut that was really fast. She wanted to go down with Tyler on one also. Unfortunately, he took one step too close to the edge and completely biffed it. He just happened to land on the donut and it exploded! Everybody got a good laugh at his expense.
On the way home, most of the smaller kids all fell asleep. I was so glad that I didn't have to drive!

They are also telling him that he has to get a new car instead of using the company truck. Not to mention that we need to find a place to live! So much all at once is a little overwhelming!!

Morgan, Cole, and Drew walked to the church for mutual and scouts tonight. Cole really is enjoying the scout group. He got to sign off 3 things tonight. Morgan also enjoyed Young Women's.
Laina made a new friend today. Before I left Brittany's house she asked if she could invite the girl over tomorrow. I told her that I wouldn't be there and that she'd have to ask Brittany. She is really excited!

We got to look for a new phone for me and a new car for Chris. It really feels like we are starting our lives completely over from scratch! There is no way that we could survive this without the support of our family!

We had a real estate agent recommended to us by two completely different sources. He was out of town, and had another person that was going to help us look for a house. He couldn't meet with us until 4:00, so we spent the morning driving around some more. We both really like the Farmington area.
At 4:00, we went into the office to find out that the guy had car problems and wouldn't make it. We wasted the whole entire day waiting to meet with this guy. UGH! We sat down with another person in the office, but ended up leaving without a single ray of hope. We didn't receive any information or any possibilities for a house. It was a very depressing and discouraging day!

Nobody had ever gone before and we didn't really know what to expect. The first group to go was the dads and the bigger kids. The rest of us were going to wait for them to get back and report. For some reason that excellent plan didn't work out and the moms and younger kids got pressured to go. Brittany took Alysa, I had Laina, and Meghan had Trey. I thought somebody was going to die and it was probably going to be me! After the initial shock of getting swept away under the water and not plugging our noses, we all recovered. We were very thankful that Chris and Mitch heard us giggling so loud that they came running back to show us where to get out of the water and to help us get the kids who were trying to strangle us!

A friend of mine put this as her facebook status. "That which does not kill us, will make us stronger!!! Yeah...but how close to deaths door do we ahve to get before this new found strength will kick in???" This whole house situation is really making me feel like that! I am ready for this particular decision to be done!
Laina has had a really loose tooth and it just won't come out. The permanent tooth has already come in behind it. We finally got her to agree to pull it out, but she would only do it if Uncle Mitch did it. He tied a string around the tooth and around a water bottle and then threw it over the railing down the stairs. The first time didn't work because the string came off but the second time was a success.

We got to can spaghetti noodles today. Brittany got an amazing deal on spaghetti noodles. We decided to can some since there are so many. We might not have a house, but at least we won't starve!!
Chris and I got to go on our last date before he heads back to Guatemala. We enjoyed some delicious Mexican food. There was so much food! We are not looking forward to Chris leaving, but it means that it'll be closer to him coming back and us moving on with our lives.

Chris and I were able to get up really early (we're a little off schedule!) and do a temple session together. It's been a while since we have been able to do that. It was very nice to be together. Afterwards, he gave each of us a blessing before he had to leave.
In addition to having a tearful goodbye with Chris, I then had to say good bye to Morgan as she left for girls camp. She was a little nervous, but I think she was relieved when some of her new friends came right up to her and included her in everything.
I've gone from 24/7 with my kids to having one gone for 4 days and the other 3 too busy with their cousins to give me the time of day. I guess I should take advantage of this time and have some "me" time.
Alysa and Ryley decided that they wanted to do a "kids camp". They have planned an activity for the younger kids to do each day. They are all excited....except Cole. He's kind of on his own this week since Drew is gone to Scout camp. Instead of going to the kids camp, he helped Brittany and I clean up/organize her storage room a little. He earned a bag of dinner mints and was a happy camper.

Chris went into work today to drop off the truck and to get a ride to the airport. When he arrived, he was told that he had to meet with the CEO again. He was wearing his shorts and was ready to travel! He went in and was told that they had cancelled his flight to Guatemala and they were going to change him to a Hawaii project. He met his new boss and got a very brief overview of what he is going to be doing. He ended up getting a flight that night so that he could finish up the Guatemala job and get all of his stuff taken care of there. He has to be back and starting his new job on Tuesday! The job will require him to be based out of the SLC office and traveling to Hawaii about once a month. (Poor guy!) It is a huge relief to know what job he will be doing. It is just happening all at once! Now I have to find a house!
Although Cole was a little bored this week, he wasn't completely forgotten. He got to go to a real cub scout meeting tonight. (Unlike the random activities that I would attempt to do!) He was able to make new friends and was really excited. The first thing he told me when he came out was that he needs a uniform. Add it to the list of things we need to get!

Meghan has given me a hard time about acting like a person who has fallen off a horse and won't get back on. She is referring to my hesitation to go deal shopping. It has been so hard since we haven't known where we were going to be sent next. Well, now that we know we'll be in SLC, I went to the Target 70% off toy sale. I ended up getting a lot of Christmas and birthdays done for the next year! While we were out shopping, Cole was babysitting Trey, and Chris was stuck for 5 hours on the highway from Guatemala City to Quetzaltenango after flying through the night. I feel so sorry for him!
With Chris gone to Guatemala, Tyler gone to Idaho Falls, and Mitch working all night, we had a girl's all nighter. We watched a bunch of movies while the kids camped out upstairs. Great times!

I have spent all my spare time looking at houses on the internet. We are still not sure if we need to rent or buy, and what area. We are thinking possibly Davis County, but we're not completely sold on anything.
While waiting for Morgan to return home from girls camp, I stopped at a garage sale. I am so happy that I get to start going to garage sales again!
Morgan had a great time at girls camp and made a lot of new friends. She is really liking being older and doing new things.

I was able to go to more garage sales today. The best find was a bike for Cole. I wasn't sure if it was the right size, right color, right style, etc. Meghan talked me into getting it and it was the best decision ever!
Laina wanted to a find a stuffed bunny to buy with her tooth fairy money. Instead she ended up getting two free care bears and she was ecstatic.
We also got to celebrate Siena's first birthday. We had a party at the Snake River. The kids enjoyed playing in the water, playing football, eating shish kabobs, and having an exciting cake fight.

The kids loved primary and young womens! I am so happy!!! It makes such a huge difference to know how happy my kids are and that they are learning stuff and participating and making friends!

I wanted to end our blog and start a new one since we are done in Guatemala, but it feels like we're not really done with our "adventures" yet. Before anybody else even began to stir, Chris was up and gone to Jacobsen to get a work truck. The kids slept for a while, and that really made me happy! Once they did manage to get up, we rushed to get breakfast before it closed. Afterwards, everybody got ready, we lugged all the suitcases back downstairs and out to the truck and headed for Claudia's. (My cousin that is wonderful and always opens her house to us when we are in SLC. Her family is the best!)
The luggage was all lugged once again into Claudia's basement. It is a good thing that she has so much space, because we filled up most of it!
Matt, Jamie, and their kids then came over to visit. We had a fun little picnic in the back yard with our much anticipated Cafe Rio food! Delicious!
We topped off the day with a trip to the park for the kids to use up some of their energy.

We got to sleep in today. We didn't have anything pressing so we could take a leisurely pace. We met Chris's parents for lunch and to hang out for a little while. The SLC family tradition is to eat at Cinegrill. This was #1 on the "to eat at" list. We are quickly crossing off our list!
While Chris went to a meeting at work, the kids and I did a little shopping. The kids were very happy to get new socks! Ahhh, the simple pleasure in life. We were able to hit a Target, D.I., and Macey's grocery store. Those probably are top 3 "to go to" places. It was pretty discouraging to go shopping when we don't have a place to put it. After dragging suitcases everywhere and not knowing where any of our stuff is, we decided that we shouldn't buy any more stuff!
We were hoping that Chris's meeting would bring us some more news for our future. He didn't really get anything! He is planning to head back to Guatemala next week and finish the job to return to SLC in about a month, and not know what is next. The unknown is really taking a toll on everybody!
We are also beginning to feel a bit of sensory overload. Everything going on around us is getting very overwhelming!

So, it was my turn to be sick. I slept from 5:00 last night until 9:00 this morning....except for when I was up to throw up. Such a great welcoming back to the states! It is really hard since Rich and Sharon are here and we've been going out to eat every meal. I can barely manage to look at the menu. Poor Laina keeps telling us not to talk about food, and I understand why now!
We did suck it up and went to dinner so we could see Chris's Aunt Karen and Uncle Gary. We haven't seen them for a really long time. They are great people!

We had an amazing day today. It was the first time that Morgan got to go to the temple to do baptisms for the dead. It was extremely crowded, but they said they would squish us in. We met Rich and Sharon at Temple Square. Sharon stayed with the younger kids while Rich, Chris, and I took Morgan.
The worker in the clothing area was really busy and didn't have anybody there to help her. She said that everybody either had gone on vacation for the 24th of July or they had called in sick. She had a big huge pile of jumpsuits that had been dropped off by the laundry people, but not hung up. Since we were just standing in line waiting, I asked her if she could use any help. She looked at me with a look of desperation and gratitude. I was able to help her hang up some jumpers, and hand some out to the people in line. After Morgan, Rich, and Chris got their clothing, I went with Morgan to help her get dressed..... o.k. actually just for moral support since she is able to get dressed on her own now!
After she was all finished, we discovered how long the line was! I knew it was going to be a while, so I went back to the clothing area and helped the lady until everything had been put away. It felt really good for me to be able to help out. That was something that I missed while in Guatemala. I never really understood what people wanted me to do, or not do. I couldn't just jump in and follow the instructions most of the time.
Morgan was nervous, but excited. I sat with her for a while and tried to show her what she would be doing. After a while though, the same lady from the clothing area came over to me in the baptistry and asked if I would be willing to go change into temple clothes and help hand out towels to the people who finished doing baptisms. I agreed, and was very happy that I was able to be right up front to witness Rich baptize my daughter for his mother, and then again to baptize Chris for his father. I was also able to be there when they did the confirmation. It turned out to be a wonderful experience for everybody.
We spent the rest of the afternoon wandering around Temple Square with Rich, Sharon, Bob, Amber, Kristi, and their kids. We got to see the Joseph Smith movie at the Legacy theatre.
It was really neat to see the excitement of the kids when they saw all of the history of our church. I think their favorite was the interactive video things and the model of the inside of the temple. I never knew what all was in the temple!

We had an amazing surprise at the end of the day as well. While standing outside the Assembly Hall, the Shurtleff family appeared. Tabitha was one of my counselors in the primary presidency in Vegas. Her middle son has been fighting cancer and was in the Primary Children's Hospital for months. He was released and they went home to Vegas a week or two ago. They were back up for a follow up appointment, and just happened to be at Temple Square at the exact same time and place as us! How random is that? I can not get over how much the kids have grown since we left. Their oldest was in the primary, and now he is towering over me! I just assumed that everything had been put on hold while we were in Guatemala. Who knew that people would continue to grow during that time?
Our amazing day was ended with us breaking down and letting the kids watch the first part of the 7th Harry Potter movie.

Our last day in Salt Lake City for a little while! Britt, Mitch, and their 5 kids met us at Claudia's house. They helped us again lug the suitcases up the stairs and out to the vehicles. We had a great visit with Claudia while talking about "the old days" and catching up on all of our relatives.
We decided to try out the new Legacy Parkway. It is a new freeway that goes up through SLC to Davis county. We looked for houses along the way.
A pit stopped was made in Honeyville to visit my grandma. She is really having a hard time getting around. My dad made me promise to stop and said that it might be my last chance.
We then continued the extremely long and boring drive to Twin Falls, Idaho. After driving in Guatemala, I can see how people can be lulled to sleep and go off the road. Straight, smooth, never ending!
Once we got there, all of the cousins had a blast playing together for the rest of the day!

Happy Pioneer Day!!
Our first Sunday back in the states. The kids were excited, but nervous about going to church. We decided to go to Brittany's ward so that the kids could all go together. The kids loved primary. I was shocked that Laina ended up being the most shy of the bunch. She actually went with Alysa and Lance to their class. They especially liked singing time with Aunt Brittany. They said that she's a little crazy, but they loved it!
The chapel is right next to the temple. It is nice to be close to an operating temple! Hopefully we will get to go do a session before Chris has to go back to Guatemala!
